US Approves Trans-Pacific Airline agreements

The US Department of Transportation on Wednesday hesitantly permitted antitrust protection for alliances between American Airlines and Japan Airlines, and between United Airlines, Continental Airlines and All Nippon Airways.

If the judgment becomes final, the members of each association would be bright to more closely synchronize on international operations in transpacific markets.

Parties have 21 calendar days to mention and seven business days to file answers. After that period, the DOT will evaluate all filings and issue a final decision.

The trans-Pacific marketplace is profitable for major US airlines that supply to business travellers.
United and Continental combined last week to generate the world's largest airline.
