Airbus has signed a contract with Chinese bio-fuel
producer ENN to together explore an alternative fuel for the aviation industry.Airbus, with its close relative company EADS
Innovation Works, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with ENN, one of
the most important bio-fuel producers in China, to build up the fuel made from
algae oil, reported Xinhua. The deal was strike at the ongoing 9th China
International Air Show in Zhuhai, Guangdong region.
Algae oil, extracted, processed and sophisticated
from certain species of algae, is regarded as one of the most promising ways
for the construction of bio-fuels in the aviation industry. According to the
MOU, a test flight with the bio-fuel is planned for 2013 in China, after a
Sino-US viability study of the bio-fuel is concluded.
The partners also decided to assess the
environmental, economical and social contact of the bio-fuel for aviation use,
and support its marketing in China. The ENN company, which owns micro-algae oil
making equipment, can make more than 10 tones of the product annually. Starting
from 2013, it will improve its capability to meet the require of bio-fuel based flights.
