Jamaica is known to be the third largest island in the Caribbean. The island is residence to the Blue Mountains inland and is surrounded by a narrow coastal plain. Jamaica is also home to the seventh largest natural harbour in the world, Kingston Harbour. There are numerous tourist attractions scattered across the country, including Dunn's River Falls in St. Ann, YS Falls in St. Elizabeth, the Blue Lagoon in Portland, and Port Royal, which was the site of an earthquake that helped form the island's Palisadoes.
Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett of Jamaica has announced that 300,000 airline seats have been secured out of Canada for the forthcoming Winter Tourist Season. He said this will set the stage for record arrivals out of Canada. On 29th September, Bartlett said the boost follows the addition of three new flights from Canada.
Bartlett said two of the new flights will come from Thunder Bay, Ontario and one new flight from St. John’s, Newfoundland. The tourism minister also explained that beginning in March next year, Sun wing Airlines will initiate direct flights from Newfoundland, Canada to Montego Bay every Sunday through to 29th April.
Bartlett added that the country has seen more than 200,000 visitors during the 2010 winter tourist season. Edmund Bartlett said in light of Jamaica’s homecoming activities planned for next year 2012 a target of over 250,000 has been set for the upcoming season.
