Sleep while you fly - that’s the motivation behind a new series of airplane seats designed by a British designer.
Emil Jacob thinks while it isn’t possible to enlarge the horizontal space in a plane, departing vertical might just do the deception for passengers.
The foundation of inspiration for Jacob, a fiscal data analyst who also runs Jacob-Innovations LLC, was his individual experience trying to sleep in long flights.
“I got the plan for the new designs from my own lack of sleep on long flights,” said by him.
The original designs involve elevating interchange rows of seats to give passengers more room to incline back in economy class, and the space to recline down in business class, in what Jacob observes as a move that will benefit both travellers and airlines.
He said: “Passengers and airlines will both win from using the innovative designs which make new space available on planes. Passengers will have additional space in each of the various models and airlines will be able to present better accommodations at better prices.”
Airbus’s communications manager, Mary Anne Greczyn, recognized the designer’s effort saying, ” This is the kind of out-of-the-box thinking Airbus really likes to encourage.”
